Credit Tips for Home Buyers in Lexington, MA!

With the New Year close at hand, you may be thinking about your plans for the upcoming year, like becoming a homeowner in Lexington, MA! As your Lexington real estate agent I can tell you that getting pre-approved for a mortgage is very important. A big step within that process is making sure your credit report is healthy!

Here are some quick credit tips to get you started:

1. Pull a free copy of your credit report through the official industry website. Beware of imitations; annualcreditreport.com is the real deal.

2. Look for any errors in your credit report. You can file a dispute on any inaccurate items by contacting the credit bureaus directly. Note: a dispute alone on a negatively reported item won’t remove it; be prepared to back up your case.

3. You can find out your credit score and know what goes into it by visiting MyFico.com.

4. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with debt and need help, contact the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. They can refer you to an approved credit counselor in your area. Again, beware of imitations; credit-repair scams are too common nowadays.

Sprucing up your credit report is a good idea no matter what your goals. And if you’re looking for a new home in 2012, knowing your financial picture will help you find the best opportunities in Lexington real estate!

There are many wonderful homes to choose from in the Lexington, MA area, and I would be happy to tell you more about them. When you have real estate questions, always feel welcome to contact me! I’ll be here to help you.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year,
