Outdoor Maintenance Tips for Lexington Home |
If you think you’ll be selling your Lexington home before or
during the fall or winter season, now is the time to make it through your
outdoor checklist! We all know what the weather was like last winter. Don’t put
off making necessary upgrades to the exterior of your Lexington home now, while
we still have pleasant weather. As your Lexington real estate agent, I am here
to share a checklist with you!
RISMedia shared a list of outdoor upgrades to get done while
you still have good weather. Here is a summary of them:
1. Painting. Take a walk around your Lexington home and notice
where the paint is chipped or peeling and in need of a touchup. The quick way
of doing it is to scrape and sand the areas that look rough, and then prime and
paint them to maintain even texture. If the paint is really bad, consider
repainting the entire exterior.
2. Caulking and Sealing. Check the windows on your home, inside and outside, for leaks or cracks. If you find any, seal them with
caulk. Look also at the trim around each window. If any pieces are pulling out,
or rotting, replace with new wood. It is especially important to get this done
before cold weather hits, to prevent high heating bills!
3. Concrete Patching. If you have an asphalt driveway, give it
a look over to see if there are cracks or holes that need repairing. These will
only get worse during the winter months, so it’s best to take care of them now!
Asphalt patching material is available to make sealing simple. If your driveway
is concrete, fix cracks or holes with epoxy patching material.
4. Patio/Deck Maintenance. Boards should be replaced on wooden
decks if you notice any rotted boards. Then, paint and stain as needed, and
clear away debris. On brick patios, replace missing bricks, level off areas and
re-grout between bricks as needed.
5. Landscaping. Even though the prime season for your gardens
is probably over, you should still keep up with your landscaping, so that it
appears clean and appealing. Pull weeds, remove fruits or nuts that have
dropped from trees, clip dead branches off trees or bushes, and rake leaves as
they fall.
This handy list will prepare the exterior of your Lexington home for the winter months, and for listing photos and showings, if you decide
to sell your Lexington home. If you have questions, or you’re ready to accomplish
